Learn how to use Salesforce filters in Cognism search to include or exclude CRM records and find net-new prospects.
This article explains how to filter Cognism search results based on Salesforce data. Salesforce filters help you identify net-new prospects or focus on records owned by specific users or accounts.
By including or excluding existing records and filtering by ownership, you can identify net-new prospects and focus on the most relevant opportunities.
Prerequisites
Before you start:
- Salesforce must be integrated at an account level by a Cognism admin
- Salesforce data import must be enabled and completed
- You must have access to Search
If Salesforce is not integrated or data import is not enabled, the Salesforce filter will be visible but unavailable.
Open search
- In Cognism, click Search in the left-hand navigation.
- Select either:
- Contacts to search people, or
- Companies to search accounts
Salesforce filters are available in both Contact and Company search.
Access Salesforce filters
- In the filters panel, scroll to CRM Filters.
- Expand Salesforce.
If Salesforce is not logged in
You will see a message prompting you to log in to Salesforce.
Click Log in.
Use Salesforce filters in Contact search
When Salesforce is connected and logged in, additional filtering options become available.
You can:
- Exclude records that already exist in Salesforce
- Exclude existing Leads only
- Exclude existing Contacts only
- Filter by Record and Account Owner (select one or multiple owners)
These options allow you to:
- Find net-new prospects
- Focus on records owned by specific Salesforce users
- Target contacts linked to existing Salesforce accounts
Results update immediately as filters are applied.
Use Salesforce filters in Company search
Switch to the Companies tab to filter Salesforce account data.
In Company search, you can:

- Include or exclude specific account types
This is useful when prioritising target accounts or avoiding duplication in Salesforce.
Expected results
After applying Salesforce filters:
- Search results reflect Salesforce ownership and existence rules
- Existing CRM records can be included or excluded as needed
- Results update instantly as filters are changed
Next steps
- Combine Salesforce filters with other filters such as Industry, Headcount, or Location
