The Keywords filter helps you find companies based on the words and phrases they use to describe their business.
Unlike the Industries filter, which uses predefined categories, the Keywords filter searches company descriptions and other publicly available business information. This helps you identify companies operating in niche markets or emerging industries that may not have their own industry classification.
How the Keywords filter works
The Keywords filter searches text associated with a company, including:
- Company descriptions.
- LinkedIn About sections.
- Other publicly available business information used to enrich company profiles.
For example, searching for cybersecurity, robotics, or digital twins returns companies whose descriptions include those terms, even if they are categorised under a broader industry.
When to use the Keywords filter
Use the Keywords filter when:
- The industry you are targeting does not have its own Industries filter.
- You are searching for companies that offer a specific product, service, or technology.
- You want to broaden your search beyond standard industry classifications.
- You know how companies describe themselves but are unsure which industry they belong to.
Add keywords to your search
You can add keywords individually or upload them in bulk using a CSV file.
Add individual keywords
- Open Keywords under Company filters.
- Enter a keyword or phrase.
- Hover over the suggested keyword.
- Choose whether to Include or Exclude the keyword.
- Repeat the process to add additional keywords.
You can combine included and excluded keywords within the same search.
Upload keywords from a CSV file
If you have a large list of keywords, upload them in a CSV file.
- Open the Keywords filter.
- Click Upload CSV file.
- Select your CSV file.
- Choose whether to Include or Exclude the uploaded keywords.
- Click Done to apply the filter.
CSV requirements
Your CSV file must meet the following requirements:
- File format:
.csv - Maximum file size: 200 MB
- One column containing keywords only
- One keyword or phrase per row
Best practices
To improve your search results:
- Use specific keywords instead of broad terms.
- Combine the Keywords filter with other filters, such as Industries, Technologies, Company Size, Location, or Revenue.
- Use multiple keywords to narrow your results.
- Use Exclude keywords to remove companies that are not relevant.
- Upload a CSV file when working with large keyword lists instead of entering keywords individually.
For example, if you are looking for companies specialising in carbon accounting, quantum computing, or medical imaging AI, the Keywords filter can identify organisations that mention those terms, even if they are grouped under a broader industry.
Tips
The Keywords filter complements the Industries filter rather than replacing it.
If the industry you are targeting is available as an Industries filter, that filter will usually provide the most consistent results. If the industry is highly specialised or unavailable, use the Keywords filter instead.
