How to Use Cognism Technology Filters

Learn how to use technology (technographic) filters in Cognism to find companies and contacts based on the tools they use.

This article explains how to apply technographic filters in Cognism to identify companies and contacts based on the technologies they use. 

By combining technology filters with other criteria, you can refine your targeting and focus on the most relevant prospects.

Prerequisites

Before you start:

  • Technologies must already be selected and managed by a Cognism admin
  • End users cannot add or manage technologies
  • If you cannot see any available technologies, contact your admin

How to use technology (aka Technographic) filters

1 - Open search

  1. In Cognism, click Search in the left-hand navigation. 
  2. Choose one of the following:
    • Contacts tab (to search for people at companies using specific technologies) 
    • Companies tab (to search directly for companies)   

2 - Apply technology filters

  1. In the filters panel, scroll to Technology
  2. Expand the Technology filter. 
  3. Select one or more technologies from the dropdown list.
  4. Choose whether to Include or Exclude each technology. 

The selected technologies are applied immediately and update your search results.

If you can’t find a technology

If a technology you expect to see is not available:

  1. Click Edit technologies within the Technology filter. 

This opens the Technographics page in Settings, where technologies are configured at an account level.

How technologies are managed (admin-only)

Technologies are selected by admins in the Technographics settings.

Admins can:

  • Navigate to Settings > Data Configuration > Technographics 
  • Select up to 12 technologies for the account 
  • Save changes to make those technologies available as filters for all users

Once saved, these technologies become available in search filters for all users.

Expected results

After applying technology filters:

  • Search results are filtered based on the selected technologies
  • Results update immediately when technologies are added or removed
  • Only technologies enabled by your admin are available for filtering

Next steps

  • Combine technology filters with other filters such as industry, headcount, or location
  • Switch between Contacts and Companies tabs to refine your results
  • Contact your admin if a required technology needs to be added
