Tracking ROI for Cognism via Cognism ID Fields

Looking for a way to measure the impact Cognism has had on your business? Unlocking the true potential of your business requires more than just making investments—it demands a keen understanding of how those investments perform. Have a look at the tips below on how you can do this within your CRM.

1. Create a custom text field in your CRM on the objects you will be exporting via Cognism.
2. Name the custom fields Cognism ID or similar.
3. In the Cognism platform, map the field as such:

a.) Leads: Lead Cognism ID to Cognism ID (your custom field)

b.) Contacts: Lead Cognism ID to Cognism ID

c.) Accounts: Company Cognism ID to Cognism ID

Once the Cognism ID has been mapped under all objects you’ll be exporting, it will be attached to the data coming across from Cognism. Based off this field, you can now build a report in your CRM. If the field is populated with a Cognism ID, it means that that record has passed through Cognism.

Tips:
- Make sure the field length of your custom field is at least 255!
- Check if all users exporting to your CRM have permissions to view and edit the custom fields created.

Cognism ID vs Source Field

“I have mapped over Lead Source; do I need the Cognism ID field as well?”

Yes! If a record comes from another source, the Source field is likely already filled in. If the Update Rule for this field is set to "Apply If Blank," Cognism won’t overwrite it—so you won’t know if the record has been enriched with Cognism data.
To track records enriched by Cognism, we highly recommend mapping a Cognism ID field. This ID will be assigned to every record exported via Cognism, allowing you to differentiate between records.
Additionally, you can also map a Source field to build reports on new vs. existing records. Here’s how:

  • If a record has Cognism ID + Source = Cognism, it means the record was created via Cognism.
  • If a record has Cognism ID but a different Source value, it means the record came from another source but was later enriched with Cognism data.

By leveraging these fields, you can easily track how many new records were created via Cognism and how many existing records were enriched.
