Next to each data point in the mapping fields is an update rule for that field. When configuring the integration, you have the option to leave the default setting i.e. Apply If Blank or select Always Overwrite.
By default, if the Update Rule is set to "Apply If Blank", Cognism will only update fields that are empty in your CRM when exporting and updating records.
Why is this not recommended?
If a field already contains valuable data, Cognism won’t update it—meaning you might miss out on important enhancements.
What does Cognism recommend?
- Create custom fields in your CRM to store Cognism data.
- Set the Update Rule for these fields to "Always Overwrite" so that Cognism’s latest data is always applied.
- Map Cognism data to both custom and standard CRM fields:
- Custom fields (set to "Always Overwrite") → Store the most up-to-date Cognism data.
- Standard CRM fields (set to "Apply If Blank") → Fill in missing information without replacing existing data.
This approach ensures you retain valuable data while still benefiting from Cognism’s updates.
